Like many young people, my first experiences in the kitchen was making small fairy cakes with by mum. I remember spooning the batter into the cases, eagerly anticipating the moment when I could lick the bowl clean. Once the cakes were cooked, the time came to pour over the icing and decorate with (far too many) sprinkles.
Over the years, I remained a very keen baker, but it never became more than a hobby. I studied Economics & Politics at Bath University, and then spent 10 years working as a Trainer for a company in Canary Wharf.
Then my daughter came along and I found myself making fairy cakes with her. My passion had been given a new boost, and I started making decorated birthday cakes for family and friends. Realising how much I enjoyed it, I took myself off to evening college for 2 years and learnt the skills needed to become a fully fledged cake maker and decorator.
Hobby baking for friends and family soon turned into regular orders as people passed my details around, and so The Sugar & Spice Cake Company was born.
I am registered with Essex Council as a preparer and distributer of food, and as such am subject to inspections by the Food Standards Agency. I have been awared 5 stars by the FSA for food saftey and hygiene. I am fully insured and a member of the British Sugarscraft Guild.
